Last week we talked about action movies, especially Tom Cruise movies, and how his character can do every single thing the villain can. The hero in those movies is just as capable as the villain to destroy people. 

So the hero can actually be just as terrifying as the villain, because the hero is just as dangerous. At times, the hero can feel completely unsafe.

However, the hero also has a strong moral code that defines what he does and when. And to whom he does it. 

Here's the other thing about Tom Cruise movies. In his movies as the hero, he IS safer than the villain. He'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe and protect the weak and the vulnerable. He won't hurt you, but he'll likely hurt the man who is. You can always trust his character.

The same is also true of God. 

Yes, He is God and once you allow yourself to even slightly imagine what that means, it's terrifying. His grandeur, His holiness, His power, His magnitude, His majesty, His knowledge and understanding. Without lifting a finger, God could blow me out of the water a billion times over and still keep me alive to experience every single painful moment.

But He doesn't, because He is also a good God. A God full of lovingkindness whose mercies are new every morning, whose faithfulness never reaches its breaking point, and whose love never grows cold. He knows my name, and I am precious in His sight. I am safe with Him, even when I don't feel like it.

He is a God my simple mind cannot comprehend, and I am totally ok with that. I need God to be God. I need God to be bigger and more powerful than me. I need God to carry it all without getting tired. I need God to be exactly who His Word says He is. I don't need more, and I would die with less.

I need God.
