"Every time I catch you praying it makes me nervous“

"Everytime I catch you praying it makes me nervous, because I'm used to seeing you pray like this only when something bad is happening."

That was the comment my husband made to me the other day.

Yep, ouch.

But it was also a completely legitimate statement.

My prayer life has gone through many ups and downs. I'm ashamed to acknowledge how little I find myself praying at certain periods. Even my better seasons are nothing special.

I am amazed and dismayed at how easy it is sometimes to go through my day and not once turn my thoughts to God in a personal way. When things are good and life is easy, God doesn't seem necessary. Sadly, at times it is a massive struggle to convince myself I need Him.

And I know that's not true!! I know that's not reality. But I don't often see reality and it's easy to pretend everything is great, and I am totally in control. On this side of eternity, the material world feels so much more real than the spiritual one.

May God open my eyes and help me to see outside myself. May He remind me of how desperately I need Him. Not only in my own life, but in the lives of my children and family. In the lives of my friends and neighbors. This world desperately needs God. And I know Him personally.
